After School Music ... Kelly’s Teaching Biography

KELLY TAKUNDA ORPHAN
TEACHING BIOGRAPHY

Kelly loves to sing, drum and dance! She has been both a professional artist and music educator for the past 10 years (having enjoyed a musical relationship with Park Day School since 1998), sharing her own original music as well as music from Zimbabwe and beyond — teaching and performing both nationally and internationally. She recently returned from a trip to India, where she taught chorus and percussion to children in need.

GOALS OF CHORUS AND PERCUSSION

The goal of Chorus and Percussion is to use a wide variety of music as our medium to promote respect, unity and community. Kelly's own personal goal is that your child’s primary relationship to music is rooted in joy and self-expression. This happens through participation and safety within the group to fully express themselves, make mistakes and work together, regardless of abilities.

This is why we ask for a commitment from each student. Once a student is confident that they would like to be a member of chorus or percussion, they are asked to commit for the rest of the allotted weeks of music. This way, the students also feel good about following through on their commitments, and the group stays unified.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS NOT A STUDENT AT PARK DAY SCHOOL?

Though this program is designed primarily for Park Day School students, we have had a few children from other schools join us in the after school music program. Please contact Kelly directly if you'd like more information about joining our program.
